-SPIKES FINISH SERIES VS. CYCLONES: The State College Spikes, who now hold sole possession of first place in the New York-Penn League Wild Card race, continue their 10th Season this evening with the finale of a three-game road series against the Brooklyn Cyclones at MCU Park. The set will be the last interdivisional action the Spikes will see this year, with the remainder of the regular season featuring action against only Pinckney Division teams. The Spikes now lead Lowell by a half-game, while Brooklyn is also bidding for an NYPL playoff berth as they sit just 1 1/2 games behind Staten Island in the McNamara Division standings and three games back of State College for the Wild Card berth. The Spikes are 10-19 all-time against the Cyclones, including a 6-8 record at MCU Park.

-LAST GAME: The Spikes took their sixth consecutive victory and held on to the New York-Penn League Wild Card lead as Carson Cross, Max Almonte and Tyler Bray combined to shut out the Brooklyn Cyclones on five hits in a 2-0 win on Thursday night at MCU Park. Cross allowed just six hits and struck out three batters over the first six innings of work. The UConn product notched his first win as a starter, needing just 74 pitches to get through his outing, 57 of them for strikes. Almonte, a native of nearby Long Island, then took over and tossed a scoreless seventh. Bray finished the game with two perfect innings and recorded two strikeouts for the save. State College took the lead in the second on Jose Godoy's RBI triple, and Jesse Jenner produced a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Garcia, Thomas Spitz and Craig Aikin all produced multiple hits for the Spikes, with Aikin adding a double.

-EVANS MAKES MOUND START FOR SPIKES: State College left-hander Jacob Evans makes his second start and 11th overall appearance for the Spikes tonight. Evans made his first start as a professional on Saturday in West Virginia, allowing one unearned run on four hits and a hit batsman. The Oklahoma product also struck out two in a no-decision. Evans has dominated lefties this year, holding them to a .103 batting average. The 2015 sixth-round choice of the Cardinals has only allowed multiple runs in one outing this season

-CYCLONES SEND VILLASMIL TO HILL: Brooklyn will put right-hander Eddie Villasmil on the mound tonight for his second appearance with the club. Villasmil went 4 1/3 innings at Staten Island on Sunday, allowing just one run on three hits and five walks. The Caracas, Venezuela native threw 63 pitches, but only 28 strikes, in the outing. Villasmil made nine appearances for Single-A Savannah before joining the Cyclones, posting a 3-0 record despite a 4.81 ERA. The righty has also pitched twice this year at Advanced-A St. Lucie.

-FIVE SPIKES HEADED TO NYPL ALL-STAR GAME: Casey Grayson, Leobaldo Pina, Mike Pritchard, Landon Beck and Juan Perez were all selected to the South roster for the 2015 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, as announced by the league on Saturday. The quintet ties a Spikes record for most players headed to the annual showcase of future stars, last set in 2013. The All-Star Game is set to take place on Tuesday, August 18 at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium, home of the Aberdeen IronBirds.

-SPIKE MARKS: State College's six-game winning streak is the longest active string in the NYPL...Right-handed pitcher Jery Then was promoted to Single-A Peoria today...Landon Beck is tied with Tyler Badamo, who started on Wednesday for Brooklyn, for the league lead in strikeouts with 51...Beck has whiffed 24 batters over his last 16 1/3 innings...Pedro Echemendia leads the NYPL with 18 appearances in 2015...State College has gone 9-2 on artificial turf, with their only two losses coming to division rival West Virginia
