Evansville Otters News Release
Brian Kroll threw seven innings for the second straight game as the Evansville Otters won their second straight game against the Florence Freedom, 5-1.
The Otters got on the board in the second inning. With Mike Spry and Beau Blacken on second and third respectively, Denver Stuckey lined a single off the glove of Zach Schmidt, scoring both runners and putting the Otters up 2-0.
Evansville got two more in the third as doubles by Frank Scott and Jeff Goldbach, followed by a Blacken single made it 4-0 Otters.
The Freedom got a run in the fourth when Kyle Geswein singled home Mike Galloway, but that would be all Florence would get in the game as Kroll shut down the high-powered Florence offense.
In the game Kroll went seven, evening his record at 4-4. He allowed four hits and one run, striking out a career high nine. Joel Posey (7-1) pitched a complete game for the Freedom, allowing seven hits and five runs over his eight innings.
The Otters now play a doubleheader against the Ohio Valley Redcoats. Game one will be the completion of a suspended game from July 26th. The Otters will be the road team and the game will resume with Denver Stuckey on third base and one out, with a 2-0 count on Jeff Goldbach. Bryan Shartzer will complete the suspended game and Ben Foster will throw game two for the Otters. The DH will start at 6:05 p.m.
