Ninth Inning Run Saves Roosters

Richmond, Indiana - Richmond defeated Ohio Valley 7-6 Wednesday night with a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth. The Roosters dominated early, but the Redcoats rallied late to tie things up. Kiley Vaughn hit a two-out single to right field to score the winning run and give the Roosters the middle game of the series.
The Roosters started things in the second when Justus Kimbrough lined a two-out double to right that scored Kevin White for an early 1-0 lead. Richmond scored two more in the fourth coming on a sacrifice fly by Tony Sanguinetti and a run-scoring single by O.J. Garza. Another pair scored in the sixth on a two-run single by O.J. Garza to center that stretched the lead to 5-0.
The Redcoats started a rally in the seventh inning, scoring five straight runs to tie the game. Three came in the seventh on RBI by Kevin Griffin, Bobby Gilliam and Nick Batkoski, and two more came in the eighth on a two-run shot to left field by Patrick Sadler, making it 5-5. The Roosters took the lead again in the their half of the eighth on a RBI single by Tony Sanguinetti but Ohio Valley tied it again at 6-6 in the ninth on a RBI double by Nick Batkoski. Justus Kimbrough led off the ninth inning for Richmond with a single to center. Four batters and two outs later, Kiley Vaughn grounded a ball through the hole on the right side of the infield to score Kimbrough and give Richmond the win at 7-6. Kris Regas (4-3) earned the win in relief for Richmond while Chris Jakubauskas (4-3) was hit with the loss.
The final game of the series between Richmond (36-35) and Ohio Valley (32-38) will be played on Thursday at McBride Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Matt Huskey (1-1, 9.90 ERA) will make his first start for Richmond since July 9. Luke Adkins (4-6, 4.34 ERA) is slated to start for Ohio Valley.
