Roosters Snap Losing Streak

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters broke their nine-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 4-3 walk-off win over the Evansville Otters. Neither team scored more than one run in an inning as the Otters tied the game twice before giving up the winning home run to Mike Bidwell in the bottom of the ninth.

The Roosters managed to get a run in the second and another in the third to take a 2-0 lead. O.J Garza hit a RBI double down the left field line and Nate Gravley added a RBI double of his own. Evansville scored the next two runs to even the game at 2-2. Jeff Goldbach hit a solo homer to left field in the fourth and Brian McKenna doubled to left in the fifth.

Richmond took the lead in the sixth when Joe Rhomberg scored on fielder's choice hit by O.J. Garza but the Otters tied it again in the top of the ninth on Mike Spry solo home run to right field. Mike Bidwell provided the heroics in the ninth with a two-out, walk-off homer to deep left-center that gave the Roosters their first win in over a week. Mike Cervera (2-2) got win while Ryan Burnau (3-4) gave up the game-winnings homer in the loss.

The Roosters and Otters will continue the series on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Tony Casoli (7-6, 4.10 ERA) will toe the mound for Richmond against Brian Kroll (6-4, 3.29 ERA) of Evansville. The Roosters have two games remaining at McBride Stadium before saying goodbye to Richmond as they move to Traverse City, Michigan next season.
