Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters lost 10-6 Sunday night in the first game of a series with the Chillicothe Paints. It was the eighth straight loss for Richmond and its 16th in the last 17 games. The Paints collected 17 hits in the game and were able to put the Roosters behind early despite committing five errors.
The Paints scored early and often in the game, getting one run in each of the first three innings, three runs in the fourth, and four runs in the sixth. John Ramistella, Scott Martin, Jose Rodriguez, Juan Downing, Tim Baywal, and Josh Ury each had one RBI while Noah Peery and Andrew Kasparek had two RBI apiece.
Richmond's offense came in the form of two runs in the first, one run in the eighth and three runs in the ninth. Kevin White had an RBI single to left in the first, and later scored on a wild pitch. Mike Bidwell added the final run in the eighth when he hit a run-scoring double to right. Nate Gravley added some late game fireworks when he crushed a three-run homer down the left field line in the ninth. That made it a 10-6 game and would be as close as Richmond would get. Keith Ferguson (2-1) threw six innings for the win while Pete Soskin (2) pitched the final three innings of the game for the save. Matt Schweitzer (6-9) took the defeat.
The Roosters and Paints will play game two of the series on Monday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Dan Caldwell (1-5, 5.45 ERA) will toe the mound for the home team against Lucas Palmer (6-5, 4.55 ERA) of Chillicothe. The Roosters have five home games remaining in their final season at Richmond
