Grizzlies overcome early run

Sauget, IL - After 2 innings and a half and a Matt Ferrara 2-run homer, the ThunderBolts had a 4-3 edge over the Gateway Grizzlies Monday night at GMC Stadium. The home team fired back with 3 in the home portion of the 3rd en route to a 7-5 victory.

The ThunderBolts jammed the bases in the 1st and plated the initial run on a Ferrara fielder's choice that plated Clemente Bonilla. Gateway captured the edge against Bolts starter Mike Renery with a Thomari Story-Harden RBI single and Mike Breyman's 4th homer against Windy City this year, a 2-run blast.

After Ferrara's 2-run round-tripper in the 3rd, Nate Whitney reignited the offense with a double and Donnie Poles chased him home with a single. In bottom half, the first trio reached on singles and Breyman unloaded the bases with a double that handed Gateway a 6-4 edge. Ryan Sullivan's solo homer in the 6th concluded the Grizzlies' scoring.

The ThunderBolts accumulated just one base runner from the 5th to 8th innings against starter Nathan Roush and reliever Scott Patterson. In the 9th, the first pair of batters K'd. Scott Vetter tagged the first pitch he saw over the right field wall to make it 7-5. Right fielder Freddy Lopez launched himself over the wall to make the catch and ended up in the grassy area beyond the fence.

For the Bolts, Clemente Bonilla recorded his 4th-consecutive multi-hit contest. He went 2-for-4. Matt Ferrara's 3 RBI was the most for him since July 26th.
