The Washington Wild Things (61-28), presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, lost to the Evansville Monday night in front of 3,238.
Evansville scored one run in the first inning when Denver Stuckey hit a home run. But the Wild Things answered in the bottom of the inning when Chris Sidick scored on a Chris Carter double.
In the fifth inning Lance Koenig hit a two run homer giving Sidick his second score of the evening.
In the seventh inning the Otters scored five runs including a home run by Josh Stewart. But in the bottom the seventh the Wild Things answered with one run when David Reaver scored.
Then in the ninth, Evansville struck again when Jeff Golbach hit a two run homer.
Stephen Spragg (4-1) took the loss for the Wild Things. He allowed three earned runs on three hits. Spragg walked two and struck out one. Starter Brian Burks went 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits, walking two and striking out four. Jim Popp pitched the final inning.
The Wild Things and Otters are scheduled to meet for the third and final game of the set Tuesday at Falconi Field when Brendon Davis and Chris Pillsbury will face off. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Wild Thing Batting Bobble Head from Washington Federal and WJPA 95.3 F.M.
