There is no quit in the Mavs

Mid-Missouri Mavericks News Release
They've been eliminated from playoff contention...they've been assured of a losing record...they only have a small chance of making it out of last place...but there's absolutely no quit in the Mid-Missouri Mavericks!
With a split of last night's double header with playoff contender Rockford, the Mavs have now won five of their last seven games. Mid-MO's win in the second game of the double header knocked the RiverHawks 1.5 games behind West Division leader Kalamazoo and kept third place Gateway within 2.5 games of second place.
Over the weekend, the Mavs kept the playoff hopes of the River City Rascals at bay by winning 4 of 5 games, including sweeping both double headers (on Thursday and Saturday). River City now sits a distant fourth in the West Division, five games out of a playoff spot.
Last night's hero in Game 2 was once again Brent Metheny. After three Mid-MO runs in the first inning of game 2, the River Hawks slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually pulled ahead 4-3 in the fifth, and added an insurance run in the seventh. But that's when the Mavs fought back.
Elliot Ayala banged a double to start the bottom of the 7th. Rockford manager Mike Young then elected to take out All-Star closer Jason Glosser and inserted lefty Derek Ellison, in what turned out to be an ill- advised decision. Dusty Hillman yanked a double down the left field line to knife the lead in half, and Metheny, who had already collected one game-tying RBI hit off Ellison this season, drove in Hillman with a single. Two batters later, Bryce Morrison roped a shot off the tip of Aaron McEachran's mitt, and the ball rolled in the infield grass. Metheny scored all the way from second to give Mid-MO the 6-5 victory.

Final Community Night benefits two great causes!
When fans come to Taylor Stadium tonight to watch the Mavs and the RiverHawks, some may not realize that 100% of the cost of their ticket is going to benefit two great causes. They may get caught up in the good baseball, the fun contests, the police cars and firetrucks or the Fire Department Honor Guard...and that's fantastic! But the truth is, tonight's game is about more than family entertainment.
One-half of the game day ticket sales for tonight's game will go to benefit the Columbia Police Foundation. The Columbia Police Foundation benefits several Police related causes, including the Officer Down Fund. If you may remember, back in January of this year, it was the Columbia Police Foundations' Officer Down Fund that assisted with the medical bills of the late officer Molly Bowden and officer Curtis Brown - both of whom were shot in the line of duty.
The other half of the game day ticket sales will benefit the George David Peak Memorial Burn Care Center. Now with nine ICU beds, MU Health Care's Peak Burn Care Center has been caring for burn patients in Central Missouri since 1968.
Throwing out the first pitch at tonight's game will be Jim and Billie Silvey - the co-chairs of the Columbia Police Foundation. Columbia Police Chief Randy Boehm will be singing the National Anthem. The Columbia Fire Department Honor Guard will be presenting the colors. Additionally, burn survivor, and current Fire Department Division Chief, Terry Cassil will be outfitted with a Mavericks' uniform and will be serving as an honorary assistant coach!
