Mavs bats come alive in record setting inning
August 22, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Mid-Missouri Mavericks News Release
It took a record setting inning for the Mid-Missouri Mavericks to avoid a Ohio Valley sweep.
Mid-Mo scored a franchise record 12 runs and sent 16 hitters to the plate in the eighth inning, which enabled the Mavs to come from behind and record a 15-7 victory Sunday at Taylor Stadium. Mid-Missouri (25-51) also drew within three and a half games of fifth place Windy City in the Frontier League's West Division.
The Mavericks pounded out 10 hits during the eighth frame, including a bases clearing double by new Maverick DH Bryce Morrison, who was 2-5 with 4 RBIs in his first Mid-Missouri contest. Josh Wettlaufer also launched his first home run of the year in the eighth, helping the Mavericks climb back from a 4-3 deficit.
Nick Renault pitched seven innings, and did not chalk up a decision following five hits and four earned runs allowed. Instead, the win went to Eli Sledge (1-0) who tossed the final two innings in relief.
Mid Missouri now heads to Sauget, IL to begin a three-game series with Gateway. Brett Smith takes the mound at GMC Stadium for the 7:05 opener, which can be heard live on www.midmomavs.com.
Fulfilling 50% Refund Promise!
Season ticket holders take note...the promise is being fulfilled. As team President Gary Wendt assured back in 2004, if the Mavericks did not play .500 ball in '05, season ticket holders would receive a refund of 50% of the ticket cost.
A mailing list is currently being prepared and letters will be sent to all season ticket holders within a couple of days. The letter will give season ticket holders the option of receiving a 50% refund or allowing the Mavericks to donate the refund to the Children's Miracle Network.
Children's Miracle Network is the alliance of premier children's hospitals. Every year, Children's Miracle Network hospitals treat 17 million children for every disease and injury imaginable. Children's Miracle Network hospitals impact the lives of more children than any other children's organization in the world. Children's hospitals provide state-of-the-art care, life- saving research and preventative education for children 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Just one Homestand left in '05!
Just six home dates are left in '05...but NINE home games still remain! After a three game getaway to Gateway where the Mavs will grapple with the Grizzlies, Mid-MO will return to Taylor Stadium for the last homestand of the season.
On Thursday, August 25th, fans will be treated to twice the baseball as the Mavs and the River City Rascals will play two on Miller Lite / 100.1 BUZZ Beer Nite. State Farm Insurance will also be distributing 500 water bottles on the 25th. Since the two 7- inning contests will obviously take longer than a 9- inning game, the Mavericks have moved the start time up to 6:05 PM.
On a side note...that's a lot of beer.
Only one game on the night of the 26th...but oh, what a night it should be! Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman is scheduled to attend as his bobbleheaded likeness is distributed to 500 lucky fans on Boone County National Bank / News/Talk 1400 KFRU's Freebie Friday!
COOL 104 / Inside Columbia Magazine Spectacular Saturday, August 27th brings another double-header between the in-state rivals. The start time has been moved up to 6:05 PM so that fans can be treated to fireworks after the second contest.
Two times the baseball again as the Rockford Riverhawks come to town on Sunday the 28th. The Columbia Daily Tribune Family Night start time has been moved to 5:05 PM. Kids 12 and under will be able to run the bases after the first game and the Mavs will sign autographs after the second game.
Monday, August 29th brings U.S. Cellular / 101.5 KPLA / KRCG Community Night. Come to the game and help support the Columbia Police and Fire Departments. 100% of the game day ticket sales will go directly to the Columbia Police Foundation and the Missouri Children's Burn Camp.
The final scheduled home game in 2005 promises to be "lucky." After all, it's Lodge of Four Seasons / Q106.1 "Lucky Tuesday." Over 50 fans will go home a winner...including a few who go home with a weekend getaway to the Lodge!
