Metheny Breaks Mavs' Hit Record

August 12, 2005 - Frontier League (FL)
Mid-Missouri Mavericks News Release

The bat sits relaxed on his left shoulder...feet shoulder width apart...knees locked...it almost appears as if he doesn't even realize that he's about to be greeted by a 90 mph fastball.

But at the last moment, the knees bend, the hands and elbows raise, the eyes focus, the body shifts, the arms pull the bat through the zone, and another pitcher has failed in his attempt to retire Brent Metheny.

With a seventh inning single in last night's game, Brent Metheny set a Mid-Missouri Mavericks' record for hits in a season. Metheny's 100th hit breaks Billy Greenwell's 2003 record of 99.

Metheny's batting average currently sits at .373 - just .003 points behind Chillicothe's Jose Rodriguez. But it's what he's doing when it counts that is most impressive...Metheny is currently hitting a torrid .493 with runners in scoring position and an unbelievable .414 with runners in scoring position and two outs in the inning.

Mavs hit the road for six in seven...

After dropping two of three at the hands of the Gateway Grizzlies, the Mavericks travel down I-70 for a three game set with their state rivals - the River City Rascalls. Then, after a day off, the Mavs head east to Indiana for a three game series with the Evansville Otters.

The Mavericks will return to Taylor Stadium on Friday, August 19th. It's News / Talk 1400 KFRU's Freebie Friday on the 19th. 1,000 Mini-FM scan radios will be handed out, courtesy of Children's Hospital! Also, be sure to listen and watch for the Bud Beer Batter. Three strikes could mean that "This Bud is for You!"
