Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters lost 7-5 in extra innings on Thursday night to the Ohio Valley Redcoats. The loss sends Richmond to its first series defeat in over two weeks. The Roosters had won at least two out of every three games since dropping a series to Florence on July 23.

The Redcoats wasted little time by getting two home runs and three runs in the first inning. Nick Batkoski jacked a two-run shot and Jaziel Mendoza added a solo shot. It became 4-0 in the second when Jason Boyd hit an infield single that scored Patrick Sadler. The Roosters got a couple back in the fifth. One came on a solo blast by Tony Sanguinetti for his 22nd homer of the year, and the other came on a RBI single by Nate Gravley making it 4-2. Ohio Valley added another however in the sixth on a run-scoring double by Jud Richards to extend the lead to three at 5-2.

The Roosters rallied in the seventh three runs on a pinch-hit, two-run homer by Mike Reese and a sacrifice fly by Dick Daly, Jr. That tied it at 5-5 and would be all the scoring until the tenth inning when Ohio Valley scored a pair of runs coming from a RBI single by Bobby Gilliam and a fielding error at third. The Roosters were unable to counter with runs in the bottom of the tenth, losing it 7-5. Luke Adkins (5-6) started the game and earned the win after pitching nine innings while Justin Gerlach (3) picked up the save. Kris Regas (4-4) took the loss for Richmond.

The Roosters (36-36) will begin a six-game, seven-day road trip on Friday at the Washington Wild Things. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. (Indiana time). Mike Cervera (1-0, 3.57 ERA) will make his fifth start for Richmond.
