Evansville Otters News Release


The Evansville Otters got a two-run homerun by Jason Mann in the ninth inning to lift them to a 10-9 victory in game one of a doubleheader against the Ohio Valley Redcoats.

Game one was the resumption of a game suspended on July 26th due to weather. After the game restarted in the top of the third, Ohio Valley took a 2-1 lead. After Evansville got a pair of runs to go up 3-2 in the fourth.

The Redcoats got to Bryan Shartzer in the fifth inning as they went up 7-3. The two teams battled to a 9-6 Ohio Valley lead heading into the ninth. After David Gingrich singled to put Evansville down just 9-8, Mann came through with his homerun over the rightfield fence, to give Evansville a 10-9 lead.

Ryan Burnau came on in the ninth fir his sixth save to make a winner out of Anthony Del Prete (1-3). Ryan Childs, who gave up the homer took the loss for Ohio Valley.

In game two, The Redcoats got to Otters ace Ben Foster for four runs in the first inning plus, highlighted by Patrick Sadler's second long ball of the night in the second inning.

Evansville came back with three hits and two runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-2. The three hits came to start the inning, a double by Jeff Goldbach, a single by Beau Blacken and a double by Trask Munoz, followed by a Gingrich sacrifice fly to plate the two runs for the Otters.

Evansville tied the game at 4-4 in the sixth when Goldbach and Blacken hit back-to-back homeruns off Dennis LeDuc.

In the eighth inning with a runner on first and one out, Travis Garcia homered deep to left to put Ohio Valley up 6-4 and give the Redcoats the eventual win.

Ben Foster (8-4) threw a complete game for Evansville in the loss. Jason Elkins (3-2) picked up the win for Ohio Valley.

In the Saturday game of the series, Andre Simpson (5-5) will go for Evansville against Tom Cochran (4-5) for the Redcoats.
