
Paints expose Richmond pitching

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters were blown out Monday night in a 19-9 loss to the Chillicothe Paints. Richmond scored first, but Chillicothe roared back to send the Roosters to their ninth straight defeat. The Paints collected 19 hits on the night, six of which were home runs. Richmond has now lost 17 of the last 18 games.
Richmond struck first with two runs in their first at-bat. Kevin White and Joe Rhomberg hit back-to-back homers, both to left-center to get the Roosters out to an early lead. They held that lead until the Paints started a rally in the fourth. Chillicothe scored 19 runs over six innings to blow the game wide open.
The Roosters scored a few more runs late but never got within striking distance of the Paints. Two runs in the sixth, two in the seventh, one in the eighth and two in the ninth. The Paints set a season high with 19 runs and 19 hits. Chillicothe holds a four game lead over Evansville for the second available playoff spot in the Eastern Division. Each team has seven remaining games.
The Roosters and Paints will finish the series on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Mike Cervera (1-2, 4.93 ERA) will make his eighth start this season for Richmond against Perry Cunningham (10-5, 3.95 ERA) of Chillicothe. The Roosters have four home games remaining in their tenure at Richmond.
