
Grizzlies cling to playoff hopes with win

The Gateway Grizzlies (46-46) kept their slim hopes of making the Frontier League playoffs alive with a 5-4 win over the Kalamazoo Kings (51-41) Thursday night at GMC Stadium.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead after a Thomari Story-Harden RBI in the first inning. They fell behind 3-1 before Phil Warren drove in a run in the third to cut it to 3-2. The Kings went up 4-2 with a run in the fifth. Story-Harden drove in another run in the fifth to cut it to 4-3. Phil Warren sealed the deal with an RBI-single in the seventh. Jimmy Reiter scored on the hit, and Story-Harden scored when the ball was misplayed in left field.
Story-Harden was 3-3 with three singles and a walk. He had two RBIs and and a pair of runs scored. Warren was 2-4 with the two RBIs. Mike Breyman also was 2-4.
Matt Powell (7-3) picked up the win in relief. Powell pitched three scoreless innings for the win. He allowed just two hits. Scott Patterson struck out the side in order in the ninth for his eighth save. Scott Nicholson started and went five innings in the start. He gave up four runs and seven hits.
The Grizzlies and the Kings finish up the series, and the Grizzlies home season with a 7:05 game Friday night at GMC Stadium.
