Stars' win streak extends to three

OMAHA, NE - The Iowa Stars earned a 3-1 victory over the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights Saturday night in Nebraska. The victory pushed the Stars record to 13-12-1-1 overall and 6-5 away from Wells Fargo Arena. The fifth-place Stars are just four points behind third place Omaha in the standings with four-games-in-hand.

Iowa spotted Omaha the early lead at 10:34 of the first period before left winger Mathias Tjarnqvist netted his sixth goal of the season at 9:28 of the second period. Tjarnqvist's 5-on-3 goal was his sixth goal in seven games. The Swedish-born winger has six goals and one assist this season: 7(6/1/7). Just over six minutes later, Yan Stastny extended his point-streak to three games when he scored his seventh goal of the season. The eventual game-wining goal was his third such goal of the season. David Oliver secured the win with an empty-net goal with :49 seconds left in regulation.

Goalie Dan Ellis made 33 saves en-route to his third consecutive win, seventh overall. Ellis is 4-1 in the month of December with a 1.94 Goals Against Average and a .946 Save Percentage.
