December 17, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Abbotsford Heat News Release

Omaha, NE - The Iowa Stars scored two powerplay goals in the second period to overcome an early deficit and beat the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 3-1 on Saturday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The loss spoiled the Knights' first annual Teddy Bear Toss.

Center Justin Taylor brought on the deluge of bears when he scored on a backhanded wrap-around during a first period powerplay to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.

The Stars tied the game midway through the second period when Mattias Tjarnqvist scored during a five-on-three powerplay for his sixth goal in seven games.

Iowa then took the lead when Yan Stastny finished off a scramble in front of Knights' goalie Curtis McElhinney by slipping home his seventh goal of the year at 15:54. David Oliver added an empty net goal in the last minute of the game for the 3-1 final score.

The loss extended the Knights' winless streak at home to seven games (0-4-0-3). Three of those setbacks have come against the Stars.

The Knights are now 13-12-0-6. They finish the four-in-five week with a game at Iowa on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 1420 AM KOTK and on the internet at omahaaksarbenknights.com. The game can also be seen on-line by clicking on the link to B2 Networks on the home page.

The Knights won't play at home again until December 30th when they host the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:00 p.m.
