DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars gave the hometown fans a little ‘free' hockey Friday night when they tied the game up in the third period and then went to a 10-round shootout, eventually earning a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals.

Milwaukee jumped out to an early two-goal lead in the first period on goals from Brandon Segal and Greg Classen. The Stars answered back with a goal from team Captain Dan Jancevski in the waning minutes of the first period. Marius Holtet evened the score at 2-2 when he potted a nice feed from newcomer David Oliver and defenseman Patrick Traverse at 2:20 of the third period. The two teams remained scoreless throughout the rest of the period and into the five minute sudden-death overtime period.

Goalie Dan Ellis stopped 30 shots, the same amount he had in the Stars win last Sunday over San Antonio. Ellis came-up huge when it mattered, the extra-long 10-round shootout session. Defenseman Patrick Traverse sent the fans home happy when he netted his second goal of the expanded shootout in the 10th round. Normally, the shootout session is five rounds.

NEXT GAME: The Iowa Stars are in Chicago Saturday night before returning home to Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday, October 25th when they host the Omaha Knights at 7:05 PM. Tickets to all games can be obtained by calling 515-23-STARS.
