LOOKING BACK:

In Wednesday's action, Jiri Hudler continued his red-hot start with a hat trick, pacing Grand Rapids to a 6-3 win in San Antonio... On Thursday, Houston completed a two-game sweep in Omaha with its second consecutive shootout victory, 4-3 over the Knights... Manitoba opened its home schedule with a 6-1 win over Peoria, with 12 different Moose recording a point.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The top two teams in the Western Conference, paced by the top two scorers in the American Hockey League, meet Friday night in Houston as the Aeros (5-1-0-0) host the 4-1-0-0 Grand Rapids Griffins (7:35 CT)... Erik Westrum has a point in each of Houston's first six games, leading the AHL with nine assists and sharing the top point total (13) with Grand Rapids' Jiri Hudler... Hudler has recorded at least one goal and at least two points in each of the Griffins' first five outings... Houston has scored a league-best 24 goals; Grand Rapids is second with 22... Chris Osgood began his conditioning stint with the Griffins with a 22-save effort in Wednesday's win at San Antonio... Grand Rapids' only loss this year was a 3-2 defeat to Houston on Oct. 15.

The Hamilton Bulldogs begin a new chapter in their rivalry with Toronto as they take on the Marlies twice this weekend, Friday at Ricoh Coliseum (7:30 ET, Rogers Sportsnet Ontario) and Sunday at Copps (4:00 ET, Leafs TV)... The 'Dogs met the Leafs' AHL affiliate 100 times in nine seasons when they were based in St. John's, going 45-42-13... Hamilton's Marc-Antoine Pouliot, who tallied 114 points playing with Sidney Crosby at Rimouski (QMJHL) last year, scored his first pro goal against Rochester on Oct. 15... Defenseman Brendan Bell leads the Marlies in scoring with six points - all assists - in four games... John Pohl, limited by injuries to just 13 games last season, already has four goals for Toronto in 2005-06.

They have faced off just once in the last 11 days, but the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will play three games in 47 hours this weekend, putting their perfect 4-0-0-0 start to the test against Syracuse, Binghamton and Bridgeport... The Penguins have allowed just seven goals in their four outings, and the last six each came on the power play... Marc-Andre Fleury and Dany Sabourin have combined to stop 119 of 126 shots (.944) on the year... Ryan Whitney is tied for the league lead among defensemen with eight points (2g, 6a)... Erik Christensen leads the Pens with four goals, all of them coming vs. Bridgeport on Oct. 5.

On Wednesday, Derek Boogaard scored his first NHL goal, the first of five third-period goals by Minnesota in a 6-1 win over San Jose... On Thursday, Anthony Stewart scored his first NHL goal in Florida's 3-2 win over Washington... George Parros netted his first NHL goal and added an assist as Los Angeles beat Dallas, 7-2... Ryan Miller improved to 5-2-0 on the year with 29 saves in Buffalo's 4-3 win over Boston... Paul Ranger recorded an assist for his first NHL point as Tampa Bay routed Atlanta, 6-0.

BY THE NUMBERS:

22 -- Years since the last time a team from an active AHL city reached the World Series (1983, Baltimore Orioles/Skipjacks)...
