Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY: On Saturday night the Binghamton Senators took the ice for the third time this season, still looking for their first victory. But former B-Sen Brooks Laich had other plans as he notched two goals and took home first star honors while leading the Hershey Bears to a 4-3 victory.

Laich's first tally came mid-way through the first period with Binghamton's Joe Cullen in the penalty box for cross-checking. Hershey's Joey Tenute picked up his first goal of the season at the 16:35 mark of the first sending the Bears into the dressing room with a 2-0 lead.

Laich extended the Bears' lead to 3-0 with his second marker of the contest, coming just 1:12 into the second period.

Defenseman Filip Novak tallied his second goal of the young season, 9:27 into the middle stanza, to pull the Sens to within two. As time was running down in the second, Greg Watson found the back of the net for the first time this season to bring the score to 3-2 in favor of the Bears. Watson's goal came with just 26 seconds left in the second period.

At the 14:13 mark of the third, Cullen brought the 3,796 fans to their feet when he tied the game at three thanks to a misplayed dump in by Hershey goaltender Frederic Cassivi, from beyond the center ice line.

Hershey's Tomas Fleischmann quickly put a damper on any comeback plans Binghamton may have had as he put in a power-play goal, which gave the Bears the win, just 17 seconds after the game had been tied.

Billy Thompson made 25 saves on 29 shots in the loss while Cassivi turned away 28 of Binghamton's 31 offerings to preserve the win for Hershey.

The Sens were 2 for 11 with the man advantage while Hershey scored on four of their nine power-play opportunities. None of the seven goals were scored at even strength.

Binghamton will hit the road tomorrow for a 7:05 p.m. tilt with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Binghamton will then travel to Hershey for a rematch with the Bears on Sunday. Catch all of the action on WINR 680-AM.
