
Stars Beat Marlies 4-3 in OT

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (5-5-0-0, 10 points) defeated the Toronto Marlies (5-3-2-0, 12 points) 4-3 in overtime in front of 5,781 fans at Cedar Park Center on Thursday night. Texas left wing Francis Wathier scored the game-winning goal, 45 seconds into overtime to lift the Stars to victory. Texas forward Colton Sceviour set up the game-winning tally, as well as scored the team's third goal of the night. The Stars held off a late charge from Toronto, which resulted in a 3-3 tie with less than a minute remaining in regulation. Marlies forward Ryan Hamilton forced the overtime with his second goal of the night. Stars rookie center, Scott Glennie posted his first career multi-point night with a goal and an assist. Texas forward Tomas Vincour scored for the fourth straight game, and Luke Gazdic set up two goals as the Stars improved to 3-2-0-0 at home this year. Marlies' center Joe Colborne continued to pace the AHL in scoring, registering a goal and an assist. Texas goalie Richard Bachman (4-3-0) stopped 30 of 33 shots in the overtime win. Toronto goalie Jussi Rynnas (1-4-0) stopped 28 of 32 shots faced for the loss. The Stars take on the Rampage at San Antonio at 3:30 on Sunday at the AT&T Center.
Toronto started the scoring late in the first period. Center Joe Colborne registered his ninth goal of the season with a power-play snipe. Forwards Matt Frattin and Mike Zigomanis each added an assist, as Toronto moved ahead 1-0 with 1:03 left in the first.
The Marlies extended their lead 19 seconds into the second frame. Left wing Ryan Hamilton made it 2-1 with help from Zigomanis and Colborne. The Stars cut into the Marlies' lead at 4:02, as center Scott Glennie connected to score his first goal of the season. Left wing Luke Gazdic and defenseman Brenden Dillon set up the goal for the 2-1 tally. Texas evened the score 2-2 with six minutes remaining in the period. Right wing Tomas Vincour snapped a shot past Rynnas with help from Ryan Garbutt and Philip Larsen.
The Stars jumped out to a 3-2 lead at 5:25 of the third period. Right wing Colton Sceviour knocked in his first goal of the season with help from Gazdic and Glennie. The Marlies evened the score 3-3 with 44 seconds left in regulation. Ryan Hamilton scored his second goal of the night to force overtime. Center Nazem Kadri provided the assist on the play.
Texas left wing Francis Wathier scored the game-winning goal 45 seconds into the extra frame. Sceviour was credited with the assist to give a 4-3 Texas final.
After a road game in San Antonio on Sunday, Texas will return home for Stars and Stripes Weekend on November 11th and 12th. The Military Appreciation themed weekend will feature specialty jerseys worn by Texas. The team will wear the red-white-blue colored jerseys for both games over the weekend. A silent auction will be held on the concourse of the Cedar Park Center for fans to purchase the game-worn jerseys. The silent auction will begin on Friday and end after the second intermission on Saturday, November 12th.
On Friday, November 11th, the Stars host Abbotsford at 7:00 P.M. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Texas Stars player magnet. Friday is also 3-2-1 night featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 sodas and $1 hot dogs.
On Saturday, November 12th, the Stars host Abbotsford at 6:00 P.M. The first 2,500 fans through the gate receive a Stars and Stripes Hat, compliments of SportsClips. Saturday is also a State Farm Family Four Pack night (4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas starting at $48).
