Pirates Spearheading National Try Hockey for Free Day Locally

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League announced today that forwards Evan Bloodoff and Igor Gongalsky, defensemen Mathieu Brodeur and Nick Ross, along with assistant coaches John Slaney and Mike Minard, and Crackers the mascot will be in attendance at Falmouth Family Ice Center on Saturday, November 5 from 3:50-4:50 p.m. to take part in National Try Hockey for Free Day.

National Try Hockey For Free Day is part of Come Play Hockey Month. This program, designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport, is a joint effort between USA Hockey, the National Hockey League, NHL member clubs and OneGoal. Try Hockey for Free Day also is a component of USA Hockey and the NHL's collaboration with the Let's Move! initiative to help the nation's youth lead healthier, more active lives through hockey. There are two local opportunities on Saturday, for all children ages 4-9, to learn the basics of the game of ice hockey with the Pirates and Portland Junior Pirates organizations. Junior Pirates players will be present at MHG Ice Center in Saco from 7:50-8:45 a.m. and the select players and coaches of the Portland Pirates will appear at Falmouth Family Ice Center, in cooperation with Casco Bay Youth Hockey, from 3:50-4:50 p.m. Space is still available; interested participants are required to sign-up prior to the event by visiting www.tryhockeyforfree.com or by contacting Carmen Roy at carmen@mainehockeygroup.com (MHG Ice Center) or Rich Tibbets at cbhamarketing@gmail.com (Falmouth Family Ice Center). Every child in attendance at MHG Ice Center and Falmouth Family Ice Center will receive a flex ticket for a Pirates game and a complimentary gift bag, courtesy of USA Hockey.
