THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS...

The Syracuse Crunch (Columbus Blue Jackets) will play St. John's in the Maple Leafs' final home opener in their 14 year history. Last Thursday the Maple Leafs lost to the Crunch 3-0 in their home opener. St. John's is 8-5 all-time in home openers... The Crunch are 1-1-0-0 in the early stages of the 2004-05 AHL season... Center Brad Moran has three points (G,2A) in two matches... Alexander Svitov (Tampa Bay's 1st choice, 3rd overall in 2001) has one goal so far this season, a game-winner, against the Maple Leafs... Syracuse is 0/14 while on the powerplay so far this season and are 10th overall while playing short-handed stopping 12 out of 13 powerplays... Rookie right-winger Steve Goertzen tallied 33 points (15G,18A) in 69 games for Seattle in the WHL.

- Right-winger Nathan Perrott is scheduled to appear on TSN's Off the Record Monday, October 18th @ 7:30pm (NT).

- The Annual Maple Leafs Wives' Charity Carnival has moved from its regular March appearance. The Carnival will be held on Sunday, December 12th at Mile One Stadium.

- The Maple Leafs return home after a three-game road trip. The Baby Buds are 0-3-0-0 to start the season.

- The Maple Leafs are 4-10-0 when starting the season on the road. The team is 8-5-0 in its home openers.

- St. John's is currently on a 10 game - 26 day homestand. Nathan Barrett (Center): Barrett had a goal and an assist last week. Nathan Barrett is entering his third season with the Maple Leafs.

MAPLE LEAFS TO WATCH...

Nathan Perrott (LW): Perrott had a goal and an assist in three games last week. The Maple Leafs policeman is also +2 and has 16 penalty minutes.

Ben Ondrus (RW): Ben Ondrus is entering his sophomore season. Ondrus has one assist and five penalty minutes in two games this season.

Tyson Marsh (D): Defenceman Tyson Marsh leads the team with 17 penalty minutes in two games.

Matt Stajan (Center): Stajan recorded his first goal as a Maple Leafs in a 5-4 loss to Portland last Sunday. Stajan is expected to bring offence up front for the Baby Buds.

MAPLE LEAFS PLAYER OF THE WEEK...

The St. John's Maple Leafs nominated Right Winger David Ling for the CCM AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 17th. Last week, Ling tallied three points, two goals and an assist, in three games. On Saturday, Ling scored the Maple Leafs lone goal in a 4-1 loss to the Portland Pirates. On Sunday, the Maple Leafs lost to the same Pirates by a score of 5-4. Ling had a goal and an assist and seven shots on net in that game. David Ling, the Halifax native, was originally drafted with Quebec's 9th choice, 179th overall in 1993. Last season Ling played 50 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and tallied three points (G,2A) and had 98 penalty minutes. This is Ling's first nomination as CCM AHL Player of the Week for 2004- 05.

NEXT WEEK'S OPPONENTS...

The Baby Leafs will take on their Canadian rivals the Manitoba Moose next Monday and Tuesday, October 25th & 26th at Mile One Stadium. Game times are 7:35pm (NT).

The Cleveland Barons land on the Rock next Friday and Saturday, October 29th & 30th. Both games start 7:35pm (NT).

THIS WEEK IN LEAFS HISTORY...

October 19, 1991 - In front of 4,100 roaring fans, the Leafs down the Fredericton Canadiens 5-3 at Memorial Stadium in their franchise debut on home ice. Brad Aitken scores the first ever Leaf goal at home, connecting on the power play from Jeff Serowik and Keith Osborne at the 2:51 mark of the opening period. Rookie goaltender Felix Potvin turns aside 21 shots to earn the victory.

The Maple Leafs want their fans to "Celebrate" the past 14 seasons in St. John's and relive the numerous highlights and memories of one of the most successful franchises in American Hockey League history.

The St. John's Maple Leafs are planning a season long list of celebrations, recognitions and thanks to players, coaches and volunteers over the past 14 years who have contributed to the success of the team in the city of St. John's and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. This Thursday, October 21st will be the Maple Leafs Final Home Opener in franchise history as the team will take on the Syracuse Crunch in a rematch of last Thursdays Crunch home opener.

11th ANNUAL ST. JOHN'S MAPLE LEAFS GOLF CHARITY CLASSIC RAISED $26, 000 FOR LEAFS FOUNDATION

Last Tuesday the St. John's Maple Leafs held their 11th Annual Charity Golf Tournament at the Clovelly Golf Course.

This year's event saw over 175 participants help raise over $26,000 for Leafs Foundation Charities. The annual golf tournament is the club's first community event allowing their corporate partners and fans to meet the 2004-05 edition of St. John's Maple Leafs.

Since 1991, the Leafs Foundation and the Booster Club have contributed over $1.3 million to more than 138 local charities in support of community services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
