MOOSE NOTES

Wednesday's win marked the second time the Moose have opened the regular season with a victory on the road in five opportunties. Their overall record in such games over their nine-year history is 2-1-0-2. Manitoba's only other win to start a season on the road was back on October 9, 1998 in Orlando where the Moose beat the IHL's Solar Bears 6-4.

The Moose began that season by winning two games in a row on the road, both in Orlando. Manitoba has opened on the road one other time in their AHL history. They were defeated 3-1 by the Saint John Flames on October 5, 2001.

Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins marked the first debut win for Head Coach Randy Carlyle in two "debut" attempts. Back on Feb. 5/97 following the firing of Jean Perron, Carlyle's International Hockey League Moose were defeated 5-4 in a shootout by the Houston Aeros. That game was Carlyle's first-ever contest as a head coach. Wednesday's game was his first-ever game as a head coach at the American Hockey League level. His overall career record as head coach of the Manitoba Moose is now 179-133-0- 49 in 361 games.

The seven goals scored in the first four games by Jason King marks the fastest goal-scoring start for a player in Moose history. He and Peter Sarno each have nine points after four games which ties Fedor Fedorov who had nine points after four games last season.

Milestones Met:

Defenceman Joe DiPenta played the 300th game of his career Sunday in Manitoba's 4-3 loss to Hamilton.

Goaltender Alex Auld earned the 45th victory of this AHL career, tying him with Freddy Brathwaite for the most in Moose history. Saturday's 6-4 win over Cleveland was also Auld's 100th game as a Moose.

Forward Peter Sarno recorded his 200th AHL point in Friday's 7-2 victory over Rochester.

Forward Lee Goren's next point will be the 200th point in his career.
