LAST WEEK: The Binghamton Senators lost their season opener in Albany on Friday night by a score of 6-2. On Saturday, the B-Sens evened their record with a 4-1 victory against Syracuse in the home opener. Binghamton now has a record of 1-1-0-0 and is tied for second in the East Division with Albany.
FRIDAY OCT. 15TH @ ALBANY (2-6 L): The B-Sens dropped their season opener at Albany on Friday night by a 2-6 score. ALEXSANDER SUGLOBOV had a four-point night for the River Rats (2 + 2 = 4) and CAM JANSSEN scored the game-winning goal at :57 of the second period. Binghamton goaltender RAY EMERY lasted 23:33 before being replaced by BILLY THOMPSON in the second period. EMERY made eight saves on 12 shots in taking the loss while THOMPSON made 12 saves on 14 shots. ANTOINE VERMETTE had a two-point night for Binghamton (0 + 2 = 2). VERMETTE assisted on power-play goals by JOSH LANGFELD and CHRISTOPH SCHUBERT in the third period. ARI AHONEN made 21 saves on 23 shots for the River Rats to pick up the win. Binghamton was two for five on the power play while Albany finished two for six.
SATURDAY OCT. 16TH vs. SYRACUSE (4-1 W): Binghamton won their third straight home opener with a 4-1 victory against the Syracuse Crunch on Saturday evening. A sellout crowd of 4,710 was on hand as the B-Sens took the lead with a Jesse Fibiger goal at 16:32 of the first period. ANTOINE VERMETTE would score the game-winning goal on his way to a three-point night (1 + 2 = 3). Defenseman BRIAN POTHIER added a power-play goal late in the second period and DENIS HAMEL scored on a breakaway in the third to finish the scoring. JEFF PANZER had the lone goal for the Crunch. RAY EMERY made 35 saves and earned first star honors with a strong performance in net. Syracuse had 36 shots and Binghamton had 28. The B-Sens ended up with one goal on five chances on the power play while Syracuse failed to score on six chances.
THIS WEEK: Binghamton hosts two home games this upcoming weekend. The Hershey Bears come to town on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. game and the Hamilton Bulldogs will play in Binghamton the following night at 7:05 p.m. Sunday the B-Sens hit the road for their third game in three nights when they take on Bridgeport at 4:05 p.m.
FRIDAY, OCT. 22 vs. HERSHEY (7:05 p.m.) The B-Sens will unveil banners before the game dedicated to all of the championships won by AHL teams playing in the city of Binghamton./Rally towel night: The Bears and Senators will meet for the first of six games this season. The two teams were originally scheduled to play each other four times, but the Senators two games against Toronto were dropped when the team relocated to Edmonton this summer and replaced with an additional two games with the Bears. Binghamton lost 4-1 at Hershey in the preseason on Oct. 3. JASON SESSA scored the lone B-Sens goal in that game while MIKKO VIITANEN tallied the game-winning goal for the Bears. The teams squared off four times in 2003-2004 with a season series record of 1-1-1-1. Three former Senators are on the Hershey Bears 2004-2005 roster including right wing Dennis Bonvie, center Jeff Ulmer and left wing Chris Bala.
SATURDAY, OCT. 23 vs. HAMILTON (7:05 p.m.) Fire safety night; First 1,000 fans ages 12 & under will receive fire safety packs and a fire helmet: Saturday's contest will be the first of two this season between the Hamilton Bulldogs of the North Division and the Binghamton Senators. The teams played twice in 2003-2004 with the series split at 1-1-0-0 and each team winning at home.
SUNDAY, OCT. 24 @ BRIDGEPORT (4:05 p.m.): Binghamton travels to Bridgeport, Conn. for their second road game of the season and their third game in three nights. The B-Sens were 5-3-0-0 against the Sound Tigers last season and currently hold a four game regular season winning streak in the series.
SENS SNIPPETS: Right wing Danny Bois returns from a two-game suspension when the B-Sens play Hershey on Oct. 22...Antoine Vermette matched AHL single-game career highs with two assists on Oct. 15 at Albany and 3 points on Oct. 16 vs. Syracuse... Dave Cameron picked up his first career AHL victory as a head coach on Oct. 16 vs. Syracuse while co-coach John Paddock now stands only four victories away from 500 for his AHL coaching career...The B-Sens have won each of their home openers since the first on Oct. 11, 2002 against Bridgeport...Josh Langfeld recorded his 100th career AHL point with a power-play goal against Albany on Oct. 15.
SENS IN THE COMMUNITY: Several B-Sens players and Max the mascot will participate in the first annual Binghamton Light the Night Walk to raise funds and awareness of blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and Hodgkin's disease. The walk begins at 6: 30p.m.at Broome Community College.
