LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Vs. Worcester (10/15): The Manchester Monarchs won their 2004-05 home opener in superb fashion with a 5-2 victory over the Worcester IceCats at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Monarchs scored four goals in the first period on Friday night with a pair from center Yanick Lehoux and single tallies from center Michael Cammalleri and right wing Brad Smyth. Center Matt Ryan scored his first professional goal at 2:04 of the third period to give the Monarchs a five-goal lead. Defenseman Trevor Byrne and right wing Mike Glumac scored for the IceCats. Monarchs goaltender Mathieu Garon earned his first win of the season, stopping 28 of the 30 shots he faced. The Monarchs were 1-7 on the power play and the IceCats were 2-9.
Vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (10/16): Center Yanick Lehoux recorded his first professional hat trick as he led the Monarchs to a 7-3 smashing of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Left wing Jeff Giuliano, right wing Brad Smyth, center Michael Cammalleri and defenseman Denis Grebeshkov also recorded goals for the Monarchs. Goaltender Adam Hauser stopped 29 of the Penguins 32 shots for his first win of the season. Center Shane Endicott, right wing Michel Ouellet and center Matt Hussey scored for the Penguins. The Monarchs were 3-10 on the power play and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton was 1-5.
MONARCHS TRANSACTIONS
10/18/04: The Manchester Monarchs (AHL) loaned defenseman Beau Geisler, right wing George Parros and center David Steckel to the Reading Royals (ECHL) and released defenseman Colin Peters from his amateur tryout agreement.
