
Falcons Sign Brian Chapman

Springfield, Mass. â The Springfield Falcons, American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning, today announced that the club has signed defenseman Brian Chapman to an AHL contract. As per team policy, terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.
Chapman, 36, skated 75 games with the Rochester Americans (AHL) last season and ranked second on the club in plus/minus at +9. The 6'1", 195-pound defenseman registered 10 points (5g, 5a) for the Amerks last season. Chapman, who resides in Agawam, Mass., also scored a goal in 16 playoff games as Rochester advanced to the AHL's Western Conference Finals.
Prior to last season, Chapman played six seasons with the Manitoba Moose in both the International Hockey League and AHL. He served as the team captain in each of his final four seasons with Manitoba. Chapman ranks second on the Moose's all-time list (AHL & IHL) in games played (447), third in assists (135), sixth in points (158), and third in penalty minutes (725).
Chapman played three seasons with the Springfield Indians from 1990 to 1993. He was a member of the Indians' Calder Cup winning team in 1991. The Brockville, Ontario native posted career highs in goals (17) and points (51) during his final season with the Indians.
"The addition of Chapman to our line-up provides us with not only another established and experienced defenseman and great character player, but also another proven winner," said Falcons president and general manager Bruce Landon.
A fourth-round selection (74th overall) by the Hartford Whalers in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft, Chapman has registered 441 points (85g, 356a) and 2,717 penalty minutes in 1,162 games over 16 professional seasons. He skated three NHL games with Hartford during the 1990-91 campaign. In 551 AHL games over his career, the defenseman has recorded 213 points (41g, 172a) and 1,284 penalty minutes.
Following a road game versus the Portland Pirates on Friday, the Falcons will host the Worcester IceCats in their 2004-05 home opener at the Springfield Civic Center this Saturday.
