Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Richmond Flying Squirrels returned the favor to Binghamton in the finale of a four-game series, routing the B-Mets, 11-4, on Thursday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. The Squirrels established season-highs for runs in a single game with 11 and hits with 19 as they salvaged a split in the series.

Juan Ciriaco led off the second inning with a single off of Binghamton right-hander Chris Schwinden, sparking a three-run uprising that gave Richmond a 3-0 lead. Conor Gillaspie followed with a single and Schwinden walked Andy D'Alessio to load the bases with nobody out. Schwinden recovered to strike out Tyler La Torre, but Ronnie Ray followed and ripped a bases-clearing double to center field.

Richmond tacked on a run in the third when Thomas Neal led off with his second double of the ballgame. Clay Timpner followed and singled him to third. Ciriaco bounced into a double play, but Neal scored on the play to give the Squirrels a 4-0 lead.

Darren Ford lashed a double down the left-field line with one out in the fourth as Richmond again got after Schwinden. Brandon Crawford followed with a single to left-center to score Ford for a 5-0 lead.

On the hill, Ray had cruised through the first three innings before Nick Evans sent a solo-home run to right field leading off the fourth. Evans eighth home run of the season pulled the B-Mets within 5-1.

However, Ray would answer at the plate in the fifth against reliever Roy Merritt. Gillaspie singled with one out and D'Alessio doubled behind him to put runners at second and third. La Torre was intentionally passed to load the bases with Ray coming up. He roped a single into left-center field, plating two runs for a 7-1 lead. On the day, Ray drove in five runs, tying the franchise record established by Neal against Reading on April 23rd.

Ray departed in the bottom of the fifth inning, one out shy of being eligible for the win. He worked 4 2/3 innings, allowing a lone run on six hits. He walked none and struck out three. Scwhinden (1-1) took the loss for Binghamton, allowing five runs on 10 hits over four innings.

The B-Mets rallied for three runs against Daniel Turpen in the sixth inning to pull within three runs. Eric Campbell highlighted the inning with a two-run home run to left field.

Richmond grabbed the momentum right back however, scoring four times in the seventh to increase the lead to 11-4. La Torre contributed an RBI single and Timpner plated two runs with a single against reliever Emary Frederick in the inning.

Jake Stevens (2-1) worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and was awarded the win for Richmond. Felix Romero worked a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation.

Gillaspie finished the ballgame 5-for-5 with five singles. His five singles were the most recorded in a game this season for a Richmond hitter. Gillaspie and D'Alessio each scored three times in the ballgame

The Squirrels return to Richmond to open a four-game series with the Bowie Baysox at 7:05 PM on Friday night at The Diamond. RHP Daryl Maday (7-0, 1.36) will make the start for Richmond against RHP Chorye Spoone (2-5, 4.89) for Bowie
