Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

Richmond, VA-The Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, have announced the winners from the "Go Nuts for Reading!" program presented by MARTIN'S.

The classrooms in each of the nine participating districts to read the most books have been awarded a pizza part with Nutzy, the official Flying Squirrels mascot, and a Flying Squirrels player. Pizzas for the pizza parties are being donated by Papa John's.

The "Go Nuts for Reading!" program was implemented in the elementary schools through assemblies in over 70 participating schools put on by Nutzy and fellow friends of the Flying Squirrels. Nutzy acted out "Casey at the Bat" to get the kids excited to read while the friends he brought with him explained the program in more detail.

Students at participating schools had to read eight books in order to earn a free ticket to their school district's reading night at the ballpark. While at their designated night, qualified students were given the opportunity to participate in a pre-game parade around the field led by Nutzy.
