New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - In a game that saw numerous lead changes as each team scored in all but three innings, New Hampshire defeated the Rock Cats this morning, 8-7, in front of a sellout gathering of 7,685 at New Britain Stadium.
In a back-and-forth contest, the winning margin was provided by New Hampshire 1B David Cooper's long solo HR over the right-field fence off Rock Cats' reliever Matt Williams to open the 8th inning. The clout - the only hit Williams allowed in three full innings of work - gave the visitors a 2-Run cushion, which was vital as New Britain scored their final run - and threatened for more - in the bottom of the 9th.
New Hampshire opened the scoring with 2 Runs in the 1st inning off Rock Cats' starter, Santos Arias, who was seeking his first Win of the season. The big blow was an RBI triple by Eric Thames, which plated Callix Crabbe who had led off the game with a Walk. Thames, who also hit a long solo HR in the 5th - his team-leading 9th - scored when Brad Emaus' infield grounder was mishandled. The Rock Cats responded in the bottom of the frame when Ben Revere - who had 4 Hits on the day - doubled to RF, advancing Singleton to 3B, from where he scored on a Sac Fly by Eric Lis.
The Rock Cats out hit New Hampshire 12-8, but issued 6 Walks and committed 2 costly errors, which led directly to Runs.
New Britain 3B Yangervis Solarte collected 2 Hits on the day, including a 2-Run 5th inning Home Run that briefly gave the Rock Cats the lead.
The Winning Pitcher was the Fisher Cats' Vince Bongiovanni, who moved his record to 5-2. Michael Allen took the Loss for the Rock Cats, evening his record at 1-1. Danny Farquhar worked the 9th for New Hampshire and picked up his 11th Save.
