Spooner Wins First Career OHL Start, Kingston Beats Ottawa 4-3
October 30, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kingston Frontenacs News Release
Martin Chromiak had a career high four-points and rookie goalie Aidan Spooner recorded his first career OHL win as the Kingston Frontenacs beat the Ottawa 67's. The 4-3 comeback win was a back half of a home-and-home on Saturday afternoon at TD Place improving the team's record to 5-2-1-0.
Chromiak, named first star, would record two highlights in the game as the LA Kings prospect registered his first OHL hat-trick and he scored a goal that will be seen around the hockey circles. The Slovakian native scored the game-winner in the third utilizing the lacrosse style move as he cupped the puck and lifted it past a stunned Will Cranley as he came out from behind the net.
The East Division foes faced-off for a fourth time early in the 2021-22 OHL season with Ottawa having the edge with 2-0-1-0 record. A night earlier, a late tying goal by Ottawa had set the stage for a 3-2 overtime win to stun the home fans in the Limestone City.
Coming back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits, the Frontenacs got back on the winning track and returned the favour after suffering that comeback defeat at the hands of the 67's in Kingston. Forward Jordan Frasca extended a point-streak to five games while captain Shane Wright added his 3rd of the season for the visiting black and gold. Lucas Edmonds added his 13th point of the season to build on his team lead.
Spooner got the call for his first career start in the Kingston crease finishing with 29 saves and keeping his team within reach, after going down two goals twice. The Maple, Ontario native previously saw 23 minutes of action in the 7-2 loss to Mississauga Steelheads on October 10.
St. Louis Blues draft pick, Will Cranley was back in the pipes for the barber poles today. He saved 19 of 23 shots in the game.
Chromiak's hat-trick gave him five goals on the season, tying him with Lucas Edmonds for the team lead. Matthew Soto had two assists extending a personal streak to five games (2G,6A).
Veteran Frontenacs defenceman Lucas Peric returned to the lineup to face his former team after serving a five-game suspension. Rookie Jackson Stewart was inserted back into the lineup for head coach Luca Caputi's squad.
