Everett Silvertips News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. - Hudson Elynuik broke a tie game in the third period and scored the final two goals of the game to lift the Spokane Chiefs over the Everett Silvertips, 5-3 before 5,913 fans at Spokane Arena on Friday in WHL action.
The Silvertips had their nine-game winning streak come to an end despite a pair of power play goals, while Matt Fonteyne (goal and assist) and Patrick Bajkov (two assists) each had multi point games.
UP NEXT: The Tips return home from the three-game road swing on Saturday, hosting the Prince George Cougars at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets.
Akash Bains earned his first goal in a Tips uniform with a power play tap-in goal, 4:47 into the game when he won a battle at the net and stashed a rebound off Wyatte Wylie's bid. Zach Fischer, generating a three-point game, tied the game on Spokane's power play goal at 11:43 when he buried a snap shot at the right circle.
Sean Richards restored the Tips lead at 2-1 on a magnificent rush up ice, as he drove the net and finished Patrick Bajkov's feed from the right wing at 5:33. But Spokane used back-to-back tallies from Nolan Reid between the circles at 14:32 and Jeff Faith's right point shot that snuck through traffic and off the right post with 2:02 left for a 3-2 lead through two periods.
Dustin Wolf sprawled to make a big save moments after Faith's goal to keep the Tips within one, and took momentum into period when they struck early. Fonteyne tied the game on the Tips second power play goal just 1:52 into the third period, when he burst through the middle and behind the Spokane defense, tucking a forehand deke past Buskey.
Elynuik converted Riley Woods' post-to-post feed at 12:47 to restore the Spokane lead at 4-3, after the Tips left the net unmanned in front of Wolf. With the goaltender pulled, the Tips nearly leveled the game but Connor Dewar's snap shot with 35 seconds left was snuffed by Buskey from the right circle. Hudson Elynuik's 180-foot clear found the empty net with 28 seconds to play.
