
Pats Host Lethbridge in Final Home Game

The Regina Pats (16-15-3-0) play their final home game before the Christmas break on Saturday against the Lethbridge Hurricanes (14-16-2-0). Puck drop is at 7:00 p.m. at the Brandt Centre. The Pats dropped a 4-3 overtime decision on Friday night at home to Saskatoon. The Hurricanes meanwhile lost 3-0 in Brandon and have dropped four in a row. Tonight is the second of four meetings between the two clubs in 2017-18, The Pats hold a 0-1-0-0 record so far in the season series. The Lead Up: Pats earn point in loss to Saskatoon Friday
The Regina Pats earned a single point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Friday night at the Brandt Centre. The Pats opened the scoring when Wyatt Sloboshan beat Nolan Maier five hole for his fourth of the season and it was 1-0 after one. Bryce Platt extended the lead to 2-0, also with his fourth, but Saskatoon responded on a five on three powerplay and it was 2-1 Regina after 40 minutes. In the third, Saskatoon scored 29 seconds in and then again at 12:51 to take the lead at 3-2. The Pats battled back with a powerplay goal from Jake Leschyshyn, his ninth and it was 3-3, forcing overtime. In the extra period, Evan Fiala put home his own rebound and the Blades took the extra point in a 4-3 final. The Pats outshot Saskatoon 33-26, the powerplay was one for five, the penalty kill five for six and Tyler Brown made 22 saves>
Head to Head
Tonight is the second of four meeting for the Pats and Hurricanes in 2017-18. Lethbridge took the opener on home ice, 2-0 on October 25. Jordy Bellerive led the way with two assists while Dylan Cozens and Ryan Vandervlis scored the goals. Stuart Skinner made 36 saves for the shutout while Tyler Brown stopped 22 of 24 in the defeat. The Pats enter Saturday night with 35 points in the standings, good for the first wildcard playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes have picked up 30 points so far this year and sit in second place in the Central Division.
Steel Headed to World Juniors
Pats captain Sam Steel will represent Team Canada at the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo, New York. The signed Anaheim Ducks prospect survived the final cuts on Friday night after taking part in his second selection camp for the tournament. Steel has put up 35 points, 14 of them goals in 27 games so far this year. Teammate Josh Mahura did not make Team Canada for the tournament, he was among the last two defenceman cut from the team.
Streak Busters
Pats forwards Wyatt Sloboshan and Bryce Platt got some goalless droughts off their back on Friday night against the Saskatoon Blades. Sloboshan scored his fourth of the year, 13:33 into the first period which snapped a stretch of 16 games without a goal. The 20-year-old does have points in three of his last four with a goal and two assists. Platt meanwhile, scored his fourth of the year in the second period on Friday which concluded his goalless drought at 13 games. The 19-year-old is up to four goals and six points so far on the season.
