Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Dustin Wolf earned his first career WHL shutout on 31 saves while Riley Sutter scored twice and added an assist, to help the Everett Silvertips cruise to a 4-0 victory over the Prince George Cougars, in front of a crowd of 5,174 in downtown Everett on Saturday in WHL action.
The Tips scored twice in each of the last two periods while Patrick Bajkov and Sean Richards also scored for the Silvertips, moving to within one point of the U.S. Division after Spokane beat Portland, 6-3.
The first period saw a great 200 foot game by both teams as there were limited stoppages and lots of chances, but both Wolf and counterpart Taylor Gauthier were strong in net. Everett had the lone power play but were unable to capitalize and the period ended in a 0-0 tie.
The second period kicked off in a big way with a goal by Riley Sutter 16 seconds in to make the score 1-0 Tips, finishing on a scrum at the net. Kindopp and Bajkov were awarded with the assists as they kicked off the play to make Riley's beauty of a goal happen. Prince George had a couple chances on the power play during the second period but the Everett was the team that capitalized as Patrick Bajkov scored a shorthanded goal at the 18:41 mark to make it 2-0 Tips as Fonteyne, on ice for nearly a minute to kill the penalty, fed Bajkov for a one-timer at the left circle.
An early penalty by Prince George in the third sealed the deal for Everett as Riley Sutter got a power play goal on a forehand tuck at the crease and his second of the night to make it 3-0 Tips at 4:02. The goal was set up by Fonteyne and Davis who continue to be dominant in special teams' contribution.
Shortly after the power play goal, Sean Richards sneaked a backhanded goal past Gauthier as it trickled through to make it 4-0 Everett at 6:40. Riley Sutter got his 3rd point of the night with an assist and Kyle Walker got the secondary helper.
Dustin Wolf's counterpart, Taylor Gauthier, made 49 saves.
