Kelowna Rockets News Release
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Saskatoon Blades 5-0 on Saturday night in Saskatoon.
Jack Cowell(6) opened the scoring at 8:44 of the first frame. Carsen Twarynski(24) scored a power play goal with 23 seconds remaining in the period and Kelowna led 2-0 after 20 minutes.
Kyle Topping(12) finished off a nice set up pass from Kole Lind to give the Rockets a 3-0 lead at 4:43 of the middle stanza. Topping(13) scored again at 7:26 finishing off another two-on-one with Lind. The Rockets held a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes.
Liam Kindree(7) scored a shorthanded marker with 40 seconds remaining to seal it 5-0 for Kelowna.
James Porter records his first career WHL shutout after stopping all 40 shots he faced. The Rockets were outshot 40-25. Porter's record is now 13-5-2-o.
Kelowna enjoyed multi-point evenings from Kole Lind(3A), Kyle Topping(2G), and Liam Kindree(1G,1A).
Kelowna's record improves to 20-11-2-1.
The Rockets end their prairie road trip with a 3-3-0-0 record over six games.
Kelowna was without Captain Cal Foote and Assistant Captain Dillon Dube as they are currently away skating with Team Canada's National Junior Team. Team Canada announced their final roster for the upcoming IIHF World U20 Championship in Buffalo, NY, and the list included the two Rockets players. Dube and Foote become the 16th and 17th players in Kelowna Rockets history to wear the maple leaf in the World Junior Championship.
The Rockets players now head home for their Christmas break. Kelowna is back in action on December 27th when they host the Kamloops Blazers for some holiday B.C. Division action!
