Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), announced in conjunction with Hockey Canada that goaltender Carter Hart has been named to Hockey Canada's National Junior Team for the upcoming 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship, starting Dec. 26 (TSN/RDS/NHL Network) in Buffalo, N.Y.

Hart, who will make his second consecutive appearance in the tourney, will be a part of 22 players wearing the red and white for Canada. The primary host, Keybank Center, home of the Buffalo Sabres, will serve as the site for all medal round games. Canada is scheduled to face-off against the United States on Dec. 29 at New Era Field, home of the Buffalo Bills (NFL), in the first outdoor game in IIHF history.

Named back-to-back Silvertips Most Valuable Player and WHL Goaltender of the Year, Hart comes off Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week honors for the third straight week, ending Dec. 10. He also comes off his fourth straight WHL Goaltender of the Week award and 13th overall in his career.

The 19-year old was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, 48th overall, of the 2016 NHL Draft, and is two shutouts away from tying the league record, set by Tyson Sexsmith (Vancouver).

Originally drafted by the Silvertips in the eighth round, 158th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, Hart has played his entire WHL career with the Silvertips and has compiled a 98-43-9-10 record with a franchise record 24 shutouts, a 2.05 goals against average and .926 SV% with the club. Hart earned his 22nd career WHL shutout on Nov. 22 against the Tri-City Americans, passing Leland Irving to become the Silvertips' franchise leader in shutouts. Named CHL Goaltender of the Year in 2015-16, he is nine victories shy of tying Irving for most goaltending wins in Silvertips history.

The Sherwood Park, Alberta native currently leads the WHL in goals against average (1.32), SV% (.961) and shutouts (5) this season. Hart represented Team WHL at the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series, earning a 20-save shutout in the opening game of the series at Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw, Sask. and was named Vaughn WHL Goaltender of the Month.

Tickets for all Silvertips games are available at www.everettsilvertips.com/tickets. The Silvertips return home tonight in downtown Everett, hosting the Prince George Cougars at 7:05 p.m.
