State College Spikes News Release

JAMESTOWN, NY - Stetson Allie struck out three in his second pro start for the State College Spikes, and the State College Spikes came back late, but fell, 7-6, in 12 frames to the Jamestown Jammers at Russell Diethrick Park on Saturday night.

The Jammers (6-3) scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning when Ryan Goetz crossed the plate ahead of Brian Sharp's errant throw home. Goetz doubled off Mitch Fienemann (0-1) to start the inning for Jamestown.

State College (2-7) had entered the ninth inning trailing 6-3, but after Kirk Singer walked and reached second on a Steven Richards wild pitch, Jorge Bishop singled to put runners on the corners.

Alex Fusilier then singled in Singer to draw the Spikes within two, and Derek Trent brought in Bishop with a double to make it 6-5. Fusilier then hustled home when ball four of an intentional walk to pinch-hitter Sharp bounced away from the plate to tie the game, forcing the game into extra innings.

Justin Bencsko collected three hits for the Spikes, including a double in the fourth inning. Carlos Mesa put together a pair of hits plus two runs batted in, with Fusilier and Chris Lashmet also ending the game with multiple hits.

Allie began the game for State College by going 2 2/3 innings on the mound, and got himself out of a bases-loaded jam with no runs against him in the second inning. The right-hander allowed a total of two runs on three hits and four walks. Allie's trio of strikeouts was also the same number he racked up in his first pro appearance on Monday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Fienemann went a total of 1 1/3 innings in the loss, yielding the unearned 12th inning run on a total of two hits. Jesus Brito contributed three scoreless innings of relief for the Spikes. Emmanuel De Leon went 2 1/3 shutout frames for State College as well striking out three hitters.

Curtis Petersen (1-0), the sixth pitcher of the night for Jamestown, got the win by blanking the Spikes on two hits over the final three innings.

The game was the second longest by innings in Spikes history, trailing only a 7-6 loss to the Hudson Valley Renegades on July 25, 2006 in State College, which lasted 14 innings.

Sunday, the Spikes head to eastern Ohio to take on the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (Cleveland Indians), starting a three-game series with a 5:05 p.m. contest at Eastwood Field. State College will send left-hander Mike Jefferson to the mound for the start in his first professional outing. The Louisiana Tech alum was taken by the Pirates in the 22nd round of the 2011 MLB Draft after going 6-4 with a 3.56 ERA in 18 appearances on the mound in his senior season with the Bulldogs. Jefferson was rated as the seventh-best draft-eligible prospect in WAC before 2011 season by Perfect Game USA.

Mahoning Valley will respond with right-hander Mason Radeke on the hill in his pro debut. Radeke was chosen in the 35th round by the Indians in this year's draft, and finished second in the Big West Conference with 95 strikeouts for Cal Poly this past spring.

The Spikes will return home to Medlar Field on Lubrano Park on Wednesday, June 29 to start a five-game homestand with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Fans will be able to purchase half-price Outfield Bleacher seats, and enjoy half-price domestic draft beers from 6-8 p.m. and half-price medium sodas all game long on Half-Price Wednesday, presented by BIG Froggy 101.

It will also be Health Care Appreciation Night as the Spikes pay tribute to health care professionals, as well as a Centre County United Way Partner Agency Series night spotlighting the partner agencies of the Centre County United Way.

Fans can catch all of the action on Sunday via the Spikes Radio Network starting at 4:50 p.m. with the Spikes GameDay Show live from Eastwood Field. The Spikes' radio broadcast can also be heard worldwide through the "Listen Live" link on StateCollegeSpikes.com, provided by 95.3 FM 3WZ.
