NYPL Hudson Valley Renegades

Gades complete sweep

June 25, 2011 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

The Hudson Valley Renegades starter, Jason McEachern, put together a near perfect outing throwing 6.2 innings of hitless baseball as the Gades completed a two-game series sweep of the Brooklyn Cyclones, emerging with a 5-1 win in front of 4,912 at Dutchess Stadium.

Once again, pitching was the story tonight. Renegades right-handed pitcher McEachern (6.2 IP, 0H, 0R/0ER, 1BB, 6 SO) contributed the latest outstanding performance by a Renegades starter, tossing 6.2 hitless innings and striking out six Cyclones batters. McEachern retired the final 16 batters he faced.

Neither team scored until the third inning, when Renegades outfielder Brian Bryles led off with a walk, stole his first base of the year, and scored on Chris Winder's infield single.

In the fourth, Jeff Malm drew a one-out walk, advanced to third on Matt Rice's single to center, and came home on a wild pitch, increasing Hudson Valley's lead to 2-0.

In the seventh inning, Brooklyn first baseman Luke Stewart tripled into the right field gap with two outs. Stewart's hit was the first of the game for the Cyclones, and barely eluded Renegades outfielder Chris Winder.

Hudson Valley countered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on five singles, a sacrifice fly, and a wild pitch, resulting in the final 5-1 margin.

Chris Winder (1-for-3, 2 RBI) extended his season-opening hitting streak to six games, while shortstop Juniel Querecuto (2-for-4) and third baseman Leonardo Reginatto (2-for4, R) each contributed a pair of hits in the victory.

Hudson Valley aims for its third straight victory tomorrow night, squaring off against the Cyclones at MCU Park with the first pitch slated for 6:05.
