Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Pedro Mendoza's bouncer to third in the bottom of the 12 lifted the Jamestown Jammers (6-3) past the State College Spikes, 7-6, and into a tie for first place in the Pinckney Division on Saturday night at Diethrick Park.

After the Spikes rallied in the top of the ninth to force extra innings, the two teams traded

zeroes until the bottom of the 12. Ryan Goetz led off the inning with a double to center field, and Alfredo Lopez moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. It set the stage for Mendoza, who hit a high chopper to Brian Sharp. The State College third baseman then threw the ball into the dirt at the plate to allow Goetz to score the game-winning run.

Terrence Dayleg led the offense with three hits, including a double and a home run, two

runs and two RBI, and catcher Jobduan Morales added two singles and a two bagger. Goetz contributed two doubles and two walks, while Mendoza also had two hits and a run scored.

The Jammers jumped on Spike starting pitcher Stetson Allie in the first inning after he

walked Brent Keys. Dayleg followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Keys stole third and scored when Samuel Gonzalez's throw went into left field.

Jamestown would threaten in the second, but the team left the bases loaded before

striking for another run in the third. A walk, single and wild pitch got Dayleg to third with one out before Ryan McIntyre hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate Jamestown's second run.

State College would strike for two in the top of the fourth on a pair of RBI singles to tie

the game, but the purple and green would respond with a three-run outburst in the bottom of the frame. Mendoza singled then pinch hitter Nestor Castillo tripled to right to allow the Jammers to retake the lead. The next batter, Dayleg, belted a two-run homer over the left field fence to extend the lead to three.

The same combination that accounted for Jamestown's final run teamed up for another

run in the bottom of the fifth. Goetz started the inning with a double and scored on a single to center by Mendoza.

In the sixth inning, State College had a golden opportunity to get back into the game;

however, the Spikes would only score once. State College had already scored a run and had the bases loaded with only one out, but Kenneth Toves came on in relief and got a strike out and a ground out to keep the Spikes at bay.

The score would remain 6-3 until the bottom of the ninth when the Spikes struck for three

runs to tie the game and set the stage for Mendoza's heroics. Alex Fuslier had a RBI single and Derek Trent roped a RBI double to put runners at second and third with only one out. A passed ball on the final pitch of an intentional walk enabled the tying run to score before Stephen Richards used the same formula as Toves to get out of the jam.

Curtis Peterson would come on in the tenth inning and toss three innings of scoreless

relief to get his first win of the season for the Jammers. Greg Nappo also made his professional debut and struck out two in one inning.

Mitchell Fieneman took the loss for the Spikes. He falls to 0-1 after giving up the

unearned run in the 12.

Justin Bencsko led the State College attack with three hits, and Carlos Mesa, Brian

Lashmet and Alex Fuselier all had two hits.

After going 5-1 on the home stand, the Jammers will start a six-game series with Batavia

with the first three games on the road. Jamestown will return home to continue the series with the Muckdogs on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at Diethrick Park.
