Sugar Land, TX - Sugar Land plated five runs in the first inning and held the Isotopes to just four hits to secure a 6-3 victory, their second-straight, Wednesday night at Constellation Field.
Offensively, Albuquerque managed just one extra-base hit on the night, Elehuris Montero's 11th homer of the year, a three-run shot. Dom Nuñez, Sean Bouchard and Wynton Bernard registered the other three hits.
The Space Cowboys got off to another hot start as they plated five runs in the opening frame. Three innings later, the Isotopes struck back with a three-run clout off the bat of Montero to cut the deficit to 5-3.
Sugar Land got a run back in the fifth on a sac fly by Cesar Salazar.
Peter Lambert was charged with the loss after allowing five runs over 2.2 innings on seven hits and two walks with five punchouts.
Topes Scope: - The five runs allowed in the first inning are the second-most surrendered in the opening frame this year (most: April 17 vs. TAC, nine runs). It's the seventh time a team has plated five runs in an inning.
-The Isotopes have lost at least two-straight for the seventh time this season.
-Albuquerque was held to four hits on the night-the second-lowest total of the season (lowest: 3, April 15 vs. TAC)
-The Isotopes have been held to three or fewer runs 13 times over their last 24 games.
-Isotope pitching allowed 10-14 hits for the 21st time this season, they are 4-17 in such contests.
-Montero blasted his third homer in his last five games. Has an RBI in four of his last five, including three-straight, totaling eight in that span. Tied a season-high with three RBI (3x, last: May 27 vs. Round Rock).
-From the fourth inning on, Isotope pitching allowed just two hits and one run over the final five frames.
-Bret Boswell extended his on-base streak to 14 with a walk in the ninth inning.
-Carlos Pérez extended his team-leading on-base streak to 16 games with a walk in the sixth inning.
-Bouchard extended his on-base streak to 13 with a hit in the sixth inning. He also swiped his fifth stolen base on the year, he has been caught once.
-Dom Nuñez is just 7-for-51 since being sent down to Triple-A on May 17.
-Ryan Vilade extended his on-base streak to 15 with a walk.
-Heath Holder has inherited 28 runners on base with the Isotopes since the start of last season and has only permitted one to score.
-Lambert's five runs allowed are the most he's relented since Sept. 29, 2021, against Washington, also five runs. On Deck: Game three is set for 6:05 pm MT at Constellation Field. Brandon Gold is expected to start for the Isotopes while Brandon Bielak is slated to start for the Space Cowboys.
