Salt Lake Bees News Release

The Bees flashed some leather and put up 13 hits on their way to a 6-5 victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas Wednesday night. The Bees improve to 28-22 while the Chihuahuas fall to 27-23 on the season.

Jake Kalish picked up his fourth consecutive win and put together his fifth consecutive quality start. He went 6.2 innings and gave up just two earned runs on six hits while striking out three batters. The left-hander now owns a 1.76 ERA on the season, tops in the Pacific Coast League.

Jake Gatewood went 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, and three RBI on the night. It was his first home run of the season. Michael Stefanic went 3-for-3 and Chad Wallach went 2-for-4.

Salt Lake scored the first six runs of the game as Kalish pitched six scoreless innings of work. Gatewood hit his two-run blast in the fourth inning and put together a three-run inning in the bottom of the fifth. Wallach and Gatewood hit back-to-back doubles in the inning and gave the Bees a 6-0 lead after five.

The Chihuahuas started chipping away in the seventh inning as Shogo Akiyama got to Kalish for a two-run single. Akiyama also hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to bring El Paso within one, but the Bees were able to close out the win.

Salt Lake and El Paso will play again tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark.
