Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - Corey Julks hit a grand slam Tuesday night as the Sugar Land Space Cowboys opened their six-game homestand vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes with a 10-3 win at Constellation Field.
Julks' grand slam, which was the first from the Space Cowboys this season, capped off a prolific May, in which he led the Pacific Coast League with 10 homers. He's hit those 10 home runs over his last 17 games, also hitting .365 (24x74) over that stretch. Julks led the PCL with a .769 slugging percentage this month as well.
The Space Cowboys jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from JJ Matijevic.
Sean Bouchard briefly put the Isotopes up 2-1 in the second with a two-run homer. Julks' grand slam was part of a six-run bottom half of the inning, which also included RBI doubles from Matijevic and Alex De Goti, who leads the PCL with 16 doubles.
Lewis Brinson finished 2-for-5, hitting a towering solo home run to left field in the seventh and adding a two-run single in the eighth. Brinson trailed only Julks in the PCL with nine home runs in May. He currently ranks seventh in the league with a .559 slugging percentage on the year.
JP France struck out five batters through four innings, allowing two runs on six hits. Nick Hernandez picked up the winning decision, firing two scoreless frames of relief. Ronel Blanco and Josh James combined to strike out five batters through two scoreless innings to finish out the game.
The Space Cowboys 10 runs were a season-high for a home game this season.
Hunter Brown, who on Tuesday was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week, gets the start at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday vs. the Isotopes. Peter Lambert is scheduled to start for Albuquerque.
