Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (30-20) defeated the Oklahoma City Dodgers (29-21) on Wednesday night at Dell Diamond by a final score of 4-0 for the first shutout posted by E-Train pitchers this year.
Round Rock reliever RHP Josh Sborz (1-1, 4.66) collected the win after 2.0 innings of scoreless baseball. He struck out three and walked one while allowing one hit. Oklahoma City starter RHP Andre Jackson (0-4, 6.11) earned the loss after a 6.0-inning performance that saw one run on five hits. He struck out two and walked three.
Along the Train Tracks:
The Express threatened in the third inning when Dodgers RHP Andre Jackson allowed runners on first and second base with two outs but worked around the jam and induced a groundout from CF Leody Taveras.
Oklahoma City had a chance to score off Round Rock RHP Spencer Howard in the fourth inning. He issued three walks with two outs to load the bases but responded by getting RF Jason Martin to line out.
Both teams relied on great outings from their starting pitchers. Howard tossed 5.0 scoreless innings while Jackson went 6.0 innings but surrendered a solo home run from LF Willie Calhoun in the sixth. The blast onto the right-field berm gave the Express a 1-0 advantage.
Round Rock RF Steele Walker led the eighth inning off with a walk. 1B Yohel Pozo then singled with one out before Calhoun launched his second home run of the night on a 1-2 pitch into the Oklahoma City bullpen to extend the lead to 4-0. RHP Jesus Tinoco threw a scoreless ninth inning to secure the win.
E-Train Excerpts:
Round Rock RHP Spencer Howard threw 5.0 innings and allowed four hits while striking out six. RHP Josh Sborz tossed 2.0 shutout innings with one hit allowed. RHP Yerry Rodriguez allowed one hit over one scoreless inning and RHP Jesus Tinoco ended the night with a three-up, three-down ninth inning.
LF Willie Calhoun posted his first multi-homer game of the season. It was the ninth time that Calhoun has hit multiple home runs during a game over his career between both the major and minor leagues. The last time it happened came while playing with Texas on June 22, 2019 against the Oakland Athletics.
Wednesday was the first shutout of the season for Round Rock and was the first shutout for the Express since September 12, 2021 against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.
The win snapped Oklahoma City's 168-game streak of nine-inning contests without being shut out. The last came on last season's Opening Day, May 6, 2021, at Dell Diamond when Round Rock won 6-0.
Next up: Round Rock will play game three of the series against Oklahoma City on Thursday night from Dell Diamond. Express LHP Jake Latz (3-4, 4.99) is slated to take the mound against Dodgers RHP Ryan Pepiot (3-0, 1.72). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT.
