Southern Illinois Wins 6-0 at Home over Otters

(MARION, ILLINOIS) - Outfielder Javier Herrera hit two home runs and secured all of the Southern Illinois Miners runs batted in during a 6-0 win over Evansville on Wednesday night.

Southern Illinois jumped ahead to an early lead in the first inning against Evansville starting pitcher Matt Crim. Leadoff hitter Cory Harrilchak reached base on a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Alvaro Ramirez and scored on a two run home run from Herrera.

Ahead 2-0, Herrera would add to the lead by hitting a grand slam in the fifth inning. It was the second home run of the game for Herrera and his 10th home run of the season.

Down 6-0, Evansville had their opportunites to rally back, yet they left the bases loaded in the sixth and stranded another pair of runners in the seventh inning.

The Southern Illinois Miners bullpen would pitch 4.1 scoreless innings to preserve the lead and secure the win.

Southern Illinois is now 48-32 this season as the Evansville Otters are 36-44.

Pitcher Cody Hall (8-0) is the winning pitcher, not allowing a run in his 5.2 innings pitched. The loss goes to Otters left-hander Matt Crim (3-8) who yielded six runs (five earned) in 5.0 innings.

Infielder Taylor Black extended his hitting streak to 11 games with two hits and outfielder Runey Davis has a nine-game hitting streak after his seventh-inning single.

Evansville will look to win the series finale on Thursday night with ace Adam Champion (6-4, 2.40 ERA) against right-hander David Harden (8-4, 3.44 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Rent One Park.
