
Hall's Perfection Continues in Win

Marion, IL - Southern Illinois Miners starter Cody Hall continues to stay perfect on the season as the Miners defeated the Otters 6-0 on Wednesday night. Hall pitched 5.2 scoreless innings and struck out five batters in earning his eighth win on the season. He gave up eight hits and walked two batters. Miners right fielder Javier Herrera finished the night 3 for 4 with 6 RBI's.
The Miners scored early with a bang in the bottom of the first inning off Otters starter Matt Crim as Javier Herrera hit a two run home run to give the Miners a 2-0 lead. Cory Harrilchak led off the inning with a double and moved over to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Alvaro Ramirez.
Crim would settle down until the bottom of the fifth inning as he gave up a lead off single to Will Block. Cory Harrilchak hit a base hit to move Block over to second base and the bases became loaded with a sacrifice bunt by Alvaro Ramirez. Still with no outs, Javier Herrera hit a grand slam off Matt Crim to give the Miners a 6-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning.
Miners reliever Darrin Tew pitched a scoreless inning in relief. He gave up two hits and struck out two batters. Gabriel Shaw pitched 1.1 innings in relief, also scoreless and struck out one batter. Steven Grife closed out the game in the ninth inning and recorded one strikeout.
With the win, the Miners take the series over Evansville (first of the season). The Miners improve to 48-32 on the season and trail Traverse City by four games in the Eastern Division. Evansville drops to 36-44 on the season. The Miners send David Harden to the mound in the final game of the series as they look to sweep the Otters and even up the head to head match-up. First pitch is at 7:05 pm.
