Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - The ThunderBolts scored five runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 10-5 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers Wednesday night.
Chad Cregar hit his 26th home run in the top of the first inning, giving the ThunderBolts a 1-0 lead. The 26 homers tie Cregar with Justin Schuda for the franchise single-season record.
Windy City added single runs in the second and third. Mike Torres and Cregar, respectively, had RBI singles to put the team up 3-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Boomers tied the Bolts and took the lead. With two on and one out, Jereme Milons hit a three-run homer to even the score at three. Later in the inning, Chase Fontaine's RBI single made it 4-3 Schaumburg.
The Boomers' lead did not last long. The ThunderBolts sent ten men to the plate in the fifth. The scoring began with a Chris Wade solo homer, his fourth. Cregar was hit by a pitch and C.J. Gillman doubled before Brandon Decker singled, scoring Cregar. Both Gillman and Decker scored on Zach Aakhus's double and Aakhus crossed the plate on a two-base passed ball to make the score 8-4.
Schaumburg tacked one on in the sixth on a Nate Baumann single, but the ThunderBolts put the game away in the seventh. They scored two runs without a hit. Four walks and a hit batter contributed to the rally that ended the scoring at 10-5.
Cregar picked up three RBI in the game, giving him 80 for the season, a new franchise record, surpassing Schuda's 2005 total of 79. Decker extended his hitting streak to 17 games.
Mike Recchia was not at his best, allowing five runs over 5.2 innings, but he picked up the win, improving to 11-2. Cameron Roth (8-7) gave up eight runs in 4.2 innings, taking the loss.
The rubber match with the Boomers is on Thursday night. Game three's pitching matchup will feature Dustin Williams (10-5, 4.77) for Windy City and Robbie Donovan (8-4, 3.36) for Schaumburg. The game begins at 6:30 in Schaumburg and can be heard on WXAV, 88.3 fm and wxav.com.
