Toledo Mud Hens News Release
TOLEDO, OH.: Markus Solbach neutralized the high-powered Sounds offense in his start, but Nashville took the lead early on and never surrendered it in a 5-0 shutout victory over the Toledo Mud Hens on Saturday evening at Fifth Third Field.
The Sounds scratched across the first run of the contest in the third. Mario Feliciano picked up his sixth hit of the series by notching a single to start the frame. Two batters later, Corey Ray laced a double to the right field corner to plate Feliciano for the 1-0 advantage.
Feliciano and David Dahl went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored for the Sounds.
Solbach (1-1) would go on to retire the last 11 hitters he faced over six strong innings. He surrendered two hits, one run, didn't allow a walk, racked up six strikeouts, and was saddled with the loss.
Nashville pushed four insurance tallies across late in the game. Abraham Almonte slammed his fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot off Miguel Diaz, to balloon the lead to 4-0 in the eighth. Feliciano banged an RBI double opposite Shea Spitzbarth in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Caleb Boushley (5-2) was lights out for the Sounds in the winning effort. He fanned four and permitted three hits and a walk while keeping Toledo off the board across seven frames. Zack Brown and Hobie Harris followed in relief and each tossed scoreless innings.
While the Mud Hens were held to just four hits for the contest, Jamie Westbrook slashed 1-2 with a double to extend his hitting streak to four games. He has also hit safely in nine of his last ten assignments.
Ryan Lavarnway singled in the seventh inning to bump his hitting streak to three.
NEXT UP: The Mud Hens and Sounds will meet one final time on Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. to close out the season series.
