Durham Bulls News Release

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls (24-23) fell to the Charlotte Knights (16-30) 11-3 on Saturday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, snapping a five-game win streak. The Bulls clinched the series after Friday's game four win and now lead the series 4-1.

The Knights wasted no time getting on the board as RF Mark Payton homered on a solo shot in the opening inning. Durham would tie the game in the bottom of the first as DH Luke Raley went yard on a solo shot for the second consecutive game. Charlotte would respond in the second with another homer, this time a three-run shot from 1B Ryder Jones, for the 4-1 lead.

The Knights would remain hot in the third as CF Adam Haseley connected on a two-run shot, while Payton did more damage with an RBI double and Yermin Mercedes added an RBI double of his own, stretching the Charlotte lead to 10-1. In the bottom of the third, RF Alexander Ovalles rang up his first hit with the Bulls with an RBI single, while his RBI groundout in the fifth trimmed the Knights lead to 10-3. Haseley would go deep for the second time on a solo shot in the sixth to stretch the lead to 11-3.

Charlotte starter Davis Martin earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits while ringing up four strikeouts in six innings pitched. Bulls pitcher Tommy Romero picked up the loss.

The Bulls return to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Sunday evening for the finale of their six-game set against Charlotte. RHP LHP Josh Fleming is scheduled to get his second start for Durham in the series, while Charlotte's starter has not been announced. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm.
