Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City - The Oklahoma City Dodgers were held to one run Saturday as the Nashville Sounds went on to a 5-1 win at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Sounds hit two home runs in the game and starting pitcher Sean Manaea recorded 11 strikeouts over 6.2 innings as Nashville improved to 2-0 in the current series with Oklahoma City.
The Dodgers (5-5) lost a fourth consecutive game overall.
The Sounds grabbed an early lead for the second straight night, using a RBI single from Renato Nunez with two outs to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The teams then swapped home runs.
Nashville (5-5) added to its lead in the top of the second inning when Joey Wendle hit a two-run homer with two outs. The line drive sailed just over the fence in left field and onto the Budweiser Deck for a 3-0 lead.
The Dodgers answered with a home run of their own in the bottom of the frame. James Ramsey connected on his first homer since joining the Dodgers after an April 10 trade from Cleveland, cutting Nashville's lead to 3-1.
The Sounds homered again in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead on a solo shot by Nunez that left the ballpark over the LED board in left field. The first four runs of the night for the Sounds all came with two outs.
Manaea (2-0) held OKC scoreless over the next 4.2 innings. The Oakland A's No. 2 prospect, according to Baseball America, held the Dodgers to one run and six hits, including a home run, over 6.2 innings. He walked two and struck out 11 OKC batters. His 11 strikeouts were the most by a Dodgers' opponent since Albuquerque's Boone Whiting recorded 11 strikeouts against OKC Aug. 26, 2015.
Oklahoma City's Elian Herrera singled on a soft liner over the head of Manaea to load the bases for the Dodgers with two outs in the seventh inning. Pitcher Eduard Santos replaced Manaea on the mound and got OKC's Alex Hassan to pop out and end the inning.
Nashville then added a run in the top of the eighth inning when Rangel Ravelo hit a RBI single for a 5-1 advantage.
Santos pitched 2.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts for his first save of the season.
Dodgers starting pitcher Julio Urias (1-1) allowed four runs and five hits, including two home runs, in the loss. He issued one walk and recorded three strikeouts.
OKC reliever Lisalverto Bonilla followed with two scoreless frames that included four strikeouts. Sean Burnett allowed one run in the eighth and Chin-Hui Tsao followed with a scoreless ninth inning for OKC as the Dodgers pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts in the game.
The Dodgers continue their homestand at 2:05 p.m. Sunday against the Sounds at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Tomorrow is the first Chaparral Energy Family Sunday filled with many family fun activities, including pregame player autographs and kids can run the bases after the game.
Tickets are available through the box office on S. Mickey Mantle Drive, by calling (405) 218-1000, or by ordering through okcdodgers.com.
