Bridgeport Islanders News Release

HARTFORD, CT - The American Hockey League's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, top affiliate of the National Hockey League's New York Islanders, scored a power-play goal 38 seconds into overtime on the only shot of the extra session to beat the Hartford Wolf Pack 2-1 on the road Friday.

The teams combined for 46 penalty minutes and seven power plays but no goals through two periods marking the deepest into a game the Sound Tigers have gone scoreless this season. The Sound Tigers played a pair of scoreless ties at home last season, including a 0-0 draw with Hartford on March 6, 2004.

The Sound Tigers finally opened the scoring 1:58 into the third period as Brendan Yarema notched his fifth goal of the season off assists from Justin Papineau and Chris Campoli seconds after a power play expired. However, the Wolf Pack tied it at 1-1 just four seconds into a power play as Alexandre Giroux scored his team-leading 22nd goal of the year off assists from Lawrence Nycholat, his team-leading 30th helper, and former Sound Tiger Jeff Hamilton.

Chad Wiseman appeared to have won the game for the Wolf Pack with 50.4 seconds left to play, but referee Dean Morton waived off the goal ruling Hartford had too many men on the ice, and the Sound Tigers took advantage as Campoli blasted home a one-time shot for his eighth goal of the season off assists from Bruno Gervais and Rob Collins for the game-winner. Collins upped a pair of streaks on the play and now has assists in six straight games and points in nine in a row.

Giroux was the first star of the game, Yarema the second and Sound Tigers goaltender Dieter Kochan the third. Kochan made 27 saves while Hartford's Jason LaBarbera made 18 as the Wolf Pack had a 28-20 shots on goal advantage. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 6 on the power play while Hartford was 1 for 5.

The Sound Tigers will visit the Albany River Rats tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. and return home to host the Portland Pirates this Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Both games will be web cast live at www.soundtigers.com.

The first 2,000 fans who enter this Sunday's home game at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard will receive a Sound Tigers rally towel courtesy of Blue Streak, and there will be an open skate with select Sound Tigers players following the game; fans must bring their own skates. There will also be a MasterCard youth mini-game and a Booster Club Chuck-A-Puck during the intermissions Sunday.
