
Boyes leads Bruins to third place tie

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins and Portland Pirates played the seventh game of their 10-game season series on Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center, with the Bruins scoring three power play goals en route to a 5-0 victory. The Black and Gold outshot Portland in the game, 45-16. The shutout victory was the team's ninth of the season. The win enabled the Bruins to move past the Lowell Lock Monsters into a tie with the Worcester IceCats for third place in the Atlantic Division. Head coach Scott Gordon's club is 29-20-3-6 record (67 points) on the year.
Bruin center Keith Aucoin tallied the game-winner on his 16th goal of the season on a first period power play. The 26-year-old native of Chelmsford, Massachusetts also added two assists, and has points (7-12-19) in 12 of his last 14 games.
Center Brad Boyes notched his 23rd and 24th goals of the season, including his 15th on the power play. Boyes is tied for the league lead in power play goals, and ranks ninth in overall scoring with 24-32-56 totals in 58 games. Left wing David Gove added his 11th goal of the season, his second in as many games, on a first period power play.
Left wing Andy Hilbert rounded out the scoring on his 30th goal of the season, marking the second time in his four-year career that he has reached that plateau. The Bruins' all-time scoring leader tallied 35 goals in the 2002-03 season. Hilbert is tied for second in the AHL in goals, and ranks fourth in points with 64 in 58 games.
Goaltender Matt Underhill stopped all 16 shots he faced for his first career AHL shutout. The 25-year-old native of Campbell River, British Columbia is 1-0-1 in the AHL this season.
The Bruins and Pirates meet again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Please note that fans holding tickets for the Bruins-Portland game postponed from January 23 should use them on Saturday night.
The Bruins conclude their busy week when they host the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday, February 27 at 4:05 p.m.
